5th March 2009, Thursday – Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Memorial Lecture was held last week, that is, on 25th February 2009 at Plenary Hall, International Conventions Center, Berakas, in conjunctions with Brunei’s Silver Jubilee National Day celebration. The lecture was presented by His Excellency Dato Laila Utama Lee Kuan Yew, Minister Mentor of the Republic of Singapore. His Excellency touched on the relationship of Brunei and Singapore, especially the history why Brunei did not join Malaysia.
This lecture was organised by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah with the cooperation of University Brunei Darussalam.
I did attend the lecture (though I am not feeling well)…I am still looking the full text of the lecture over the internet.
I was given a bag of souvenirs consists of the bag itself (sponsored by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam-BIBD), a ball-point pen (with BIBD logo), a writing pad (with BIBD logo embossed), and a program book (which consists of a preamble by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah; Programme of the ceremony; About the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Memorial Lecture; A Biography of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien; A Biography of His Excellency Dato Laila Utama Lee Kuan Yew; and Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore Bilateral Relations).
