The Al-Barakah dates

This afternoon I bought one pack of Al Baraka dates at Soon Lee Mega Mart (Abdul Razak Complex Plaza Branch) for BND1.60 per 250g pack. This is the second type of dates that I eat in this Ramadan month. The first was the Mabroom dates which is the personal contribution of His Majesty to the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the month of Ramadan.
Al Baraka dates are produced and exported by Egyptian Export Center (Address: Mubarak Industrial Zone, Quisna, Menofya, Egypt).
The producer and exporter

It is imported and distributed by Barkath Stores (Penang) Sendirian Berhad (Address: Bangunan Barkath 21, Beach Street, 10300 Penang, Malaysia).

It is further imported to Brunei Darussalam by Ameen Associates (Address: No.2, 1st Floor, Bangunan Hasbullah 3, Gadong BE3919, Brunei Darussalam).

According to the nutritional information printed on the pack, every about 100g of the dates contains:
- Calories: 341.9
- Total fat: 1.1%
- Cholesterol: 0%
- Carbohydrates: 79.6%
- Protein: 3.4%
- Fiber: 2.6%
- Vitamin A: 180 IU
- Vitamin C: 4 MG
- Sodium: 14 MG
- Calcium: 29 MG
- Iron: 29 MG
- Magnesium: 3-5 MG

His Majesty's personal contribution: The Mabroom dates

This year, since 16 years ago (since 1992), Muslims in Brunei Darussalam receive dates from His Majesty’s personal contribution (Kurma Kurnia Peribadi KDYMM). Each Muslim, regardless of age and citizenship, is entitled to receive 300 grammes of Mabroom dates packed in a small plastic container. The dates are meant for breaking the fast during Ramadan.
A total of 128.5 metric tonnes of Mabroom dates are supplied by Al Madinah Al Munawarah Dates Company, Arab Saudi are distributed to all Muslims in Negara Brunei Darussalam this year.

p/s: Usually I eat 1-2 dates for the sungkai (breaking the fast) and 4-5 dates for the sahur (in addition to the main meal). Dates is good to keep you energize throughout the fasting period. Thank you to His Majesty for his generous contribution since 1992.
