1st October 2009, Thursday – On 27th September 2009, Sunday, I attended a public seminar on Islamic finance that was held by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), at Indera Kayangan ballroom of The Empire Hotel and Country Club, Jerudong.
The seminar was held from 8.30am until 4.30pm.
The first topic is “The Islamic Vision of Development in the Light of Maqasid al-Shari’ah” and it is presented by Dr M. Umer Chapra.

p/s: Economics is one of my favourite subjects while I was in upper secondary and at the sixth form center. Despite of that I am not "jump" into a field that directly related to my favourite subject. Moreover, I have my own weekness with regards to this subject i.e in dealing numbers and graphs.
However, I do refresh and increase my knowledge in Economic by reading newspapers, magazines, journals, articles in the internet, and by attending some “free” seminars, talks and workshops.
Though Economic is not directly related to my present career, it is important for me to update my knowledge in Economic to understand what is happening around us especially that involved money matters and the production of goods and services as well as the issues arise from them.
Some of the words/ phrases in Economics that I have learnt since a few decades ago: supply and demand, scarce resources, choice, opportunity cost, production of goods and services, price, cost of production, distributions of goods and service, the functions of government, central bank, monetary policy, fiscal policy, banking system, ….and the latest one is “Islamic Finance”.

26th March 2009, Thursday – Today was Day 2 of Seminar Bahasa MABBIM 2009, which was held at Rizqun International Hotel. Alhamdulillah (Praise to Allah), I was able to attend the seminar today.

Prof. Dr. Nor Hashimah Jalaludin from Malaysia delivered her paper entitled “Kuasa Politik Sebagai Indikasi Sikap Bahasa”.
Dr. Dayang Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Chuchu from Brunei Darussalam.
Dr. Dayang Hajah Fatimah delivered her paper entitled “Pengukuhan Bahasa: Bahasa Melayu Harus Berkembang dan Maju Bersama-sama dengan Bahasa Dunia Lain, Bukan Disaingi”.
Dr.Jumadi from Indonesia delivered his paper about “Pengembangan Sikap Bahasa yang Positif Di Kalangan Generasi Penerus Melalui Pendidikan”

A paper entitled “Perterjemahan Penjana kepada Pemerkasaan Bahasa Melayu” was delivered by Annisa binti Haji Moksin, from Brunei Darussalam.
A presenter from Indonesia delivered her paper.
The EndDr Yabit bin Alas is reading the resolutions of the seminar.
Dr Yabit presented a copy of the resolutions to Dayang Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin, Brunei’s Head of Representatives.

The 2nd book is “Al-Quran Penawar Histeria” by Dr. Mohammad Adi Zaky bin Haji Matasim. The writer is well-known in Brunei as he always talks on Islamic or alternative medicine over Radio Television Brunei.
The 3rd book is “ Warisan Budaya Brunei (Edisi Kedua Cetakan Pertama)” which was compiled by Haji Matassim bin Haji Jibah. The book is about some of the Brunei’s heritage.
The 4th book is “Monograf Istilah Peribumi Nama-Nama Ikan” which was compiled by Dayangku Sainah binti Pengiran Haji Mohammed. This is one of the books that was launched yesterday by the Guest of Honour.

25th March 2009, Wednesday - Seminar Bahasa MABBIM 2009 was held from today, 25th March 2009, until tomorrow, 26th March 2009, at Level 4, Songket Ballroom, Hotel Antarabangsa Rizqun, Gadong, Brunei Darussalam. And I am one of the participants of the seminar.
The seminar was held in conjunction with Sidang Ke-48 Majlis Bahasa Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia (MABBIM) which will be held from 27th to 28th Mac 2009.
The theme of this year seminar is "Menangani Masalah Sikap Bahasa Melayu/Indonesia dalam Rangka Pendewasaan Bangsa".
The seminar was officiated by Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal, Brunei's Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport.
In conjunctions with the official launching ceremony of the seminar, the Guest of Honour also launched a number of books:
- Pedoman Umum Ejaan Rumi Bahasa Melayu.
- Kompilasi Keputusan Umum Sidang MBIM/MABBIM dari tahun 1972 hingga 2008, Jilid 1 dan Jilid 2.
- Buletin MABBIM
- Monograf Istilah Peribumi Nama-Nama Ikan.
